About the role
The Unit Secretary (US) serves as the pivotal person in the routine operations and smooth running of the care center on a daily basis under the direction and supervision of the Clinical Nurse Manager.
Responsibilities
- Organizes and coordinates daily activities of the care center related to physician visits, monthly reviews, annual History & Physicals, consultant visits, patient/resident appointments, lab and x-ray appointments, LOAs, staff assignments, and schedules.
- Maintains the daily nursing staffing sheet and assists in staffing and scheduling activities as directed by the Clinical Nurse Manager.
- Transcribes physician orders into the Meditech Order Entry module accurately and efficiently, and communicates all urgent or emergent orders to the appropriate staff to ensure safe and effective delivery of patient care.
- Performs all clerical duties necessary to maintain a complete, organized, and current medical record, including admissions, discharges, transfers, deaths, and purging, ensuring compliance with facility and regulatory standards.
- Serves as a resource to all staff, physicians, patients/residents, families, and visitors, communicating information promptly and accurately in a professional and sensitive manner.
- Prioritizes work to provide prompt and efficient service and demonstrates flexibility in working schedule to meet departmental needs.
- Assists in cost containment through requisitioning supplies and equipment, maintenance and repair services, and preparation of related forms to keep accurate inventories.
- Communicates effectively and tactfully with residents/patients, recognizing their age, needs, abilities, and physical condition.
- Performs other duties as required.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 1-2 years of secretarial experience preferred.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license required.
Schedule
Day Shift / 40 hours per week.
