Responsibilities
- Operate vacuum cleaning equipment.
- Clean and polish furniture, cases, fixtures, and furnishings.
- Clean mirrors, inside and exterior glass, and both sides of interior glass while standing on the floor or a step ladder.
- Clean toilet rooms and fixtures.
- Stock restroom supplies.
- Dust venetian blinds while standing on the floor or a step ladder.
- Spot wash walls to remove such items as splash marks around sinks and fingerprints around light switches.
- Clean patient bedside equipment.
- Made beds and change linen.
- Change or replace shower or cubicle curtains while standing on the floor or a step ladder.
- Collect and transport waste materials to a central location.
- Report items in need of repair.
- Sweep and/or dust mop floors and stairways.
- Wet mop rooms and small areas of the floor or stairs to clean up such items as spilled liquid or food.
- Maintain an inventory of supplies in accordance with specific instructions.
- Open or lock buildings or rooms.
- Turn on and off lights and equipment.
- Replace burnt-out incandescent light bulbs while standing on the floor or a step ladder.
- Move and arrange furniture and furnishings.
- Collect and transport soiled linen to central locations.
- Clean the assigned area of work and equipment.
- Wet mop floors and stairways, including carpeted areas.
- Operate walk-behind equipment used for routine floor cleaning.
- Operate touch-free spray/vacuum cleaning equipment.
Required Qualifications
- A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read, write, and understand English.
- Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to perform a wide range of physical activities, including pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching, etc.
- No lifting restrictions.
- Ability to work around sick and disabled patients (children and adults) within a hospital setting.
- Ability to perform all tasks listed on the Unit Custodian Classification Description.
