Per Diem

Responsibilities

Responsible for interviewing patients or their representatives to obtain complete patient registration and required billing information, clerical duties, communication, and reception duties. Provides general support (clinical and non-clinical) and works with other members of the patient care team to deliver care to patients.

  • Recognizes, troubleshoots, and initiates corrective action needed on equipment.
  • Follows hospital and nursing department policies and procedures regarding the care and use of the equipment and supplies, including during emergency or stressful situations such as fire and disaster drills.
  • Orders and maintains clerical supplies, as necessary.
  • Maintains open communication between charge nurse, social work, and care coordination. Communicates using telephone, intercom, and computer systems. Answers call bell when time permits.
  • Organizes transportation for patients and maintains log.
  • Communicates with patients, family, and members of the health care team in a concise, tactful, and considerate manner. Represents the hospital in a professional courteous manner while being sensitive to how others perceive both verbal and non-verbal communications.
  • Registers patients, assembles and disassembles charts in a timely manner, performs other clerical work according to unit guidelines.
  • Implements downtime process and procedures including order interpretation and transcription, as necessary.
  • Accesses secured storage areas in the performance of essential job functions and duties.
  • Assists in the orientation of new employees.

Other duties may include:

  • Participating in community activities.
  • Attending and participating in unit council and unit clerk meetings (75% attendance).
  • Accepting non-routine work assignments as appropriate.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Current CPR certification
  • Knowledgeable in the use of computers
