Unit Clerk - Birth Center
About the role
The role involves performing a wide range of clerical, receptionist, dispatching, and admitting/discharge duties in support of assigned patient care departments.
Responsibilities
- Greet and admit patients, completing admitting information in the computer.
- Locate and assign beds, notify referring physicians of admissions, and communicate transfer information between departments.
- Clerically discharge patients, disassemble patient records, schedule follow-up appointments, and arrange transportation.
- Facilitate communication among departments to ensure efficient operations.
- Communicate with other departments regarding patients' status, needs, and transfers.
- Answer telephones and intercoms in a courteous and timely manner, dispatching appropriate personnel.
- Welcomes visitors, provides information, and assists with patient care needs.
- Enters physician orders, generates Kardex and Medical Admission Records, schedules lab work, and coordinates patient transportation.
- Maintains stock levels of office supplies and compiles statistical data.
Requirements
Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent. A graduate of a Medical Assistant program or secretarial school is preferred.
