About the Role
This position operates on a 9/80 schedule: Monday through Thursday 7:00 AM–4:00 PM, every other Friday as an 8-hour shift, and the alternate Friday off. Overtime opportunities are uncapped.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate toolroom machine tools including lathes, boring mills, grinders, drill presses, shapers, slotters, milling machines, jig borers, saws, filing machines, and CNC machines using Conversational Programming and/or MasterCam CAD/CAM solutions.
- Plan sequences of operations, methods, and setups; select and obtain tools, facilities, and materials.
- Work from sample pieces, rough sketches, drawings, or verbal instructions to fabricate, fit, and assemble complex precision instruments, equipment, jigs, fixtures, dies, and other tooling.
- Perform machining operations such as drilling, tapping, boring, turning, facing, threading, milling, shaping, grinding, and lapping to close tolerances and finishes.
- Lay out and machine detailed parts or direct others in their machining.
- Assemble instruments, equipment, jigs, and fixtures, ensuring intricate lineups using precision measuring tools (e.g., sine bars, air gages, comparators, optical gages).
- Fit and assemble complex gear trains, cam actions, linkages, levers, and other inter-related components; harden parts as required.
- Make complicated toolroom calculations involving trigonometry and shop mathematics.
- Prove out proper functioning of assembled equipment, making necessary modifications or adjustments.
- Maintain orderly facilities, materials, and work areas, adhering to safety and quality requirements.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- NYS Toolmakers Apprentice/Journeyman certification or 10+ years of experience as a CNC Toolmaker/Machinist in a commercial setting.
- Proficiency with ferrous and non-ferrous metals, alloys, carbides, plastics, and non-metallic materials (e.g., Textolite, Garolite).
- Experience with layout tools, precision measuring instruments, and power hand tools.
- Ability to work with cast, formed, rolled, forged, or fabricated parts and subassemblies.
- Must be at least 18 years of age due to high-risk or hazardous operations.
Pay
The hourly pay range for this position is $45.07–$52.52 USD per hour. The specific rate may vary based on experience, education, and work location.
