Responsibilities
- Coordinates, schedules, and performs painting, varnishing, and staining to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, equipment, and furniture.
- Assigns painters to complete tasks and provides direction, guidance, and instruction to newer employees.
- Ensures all installations conform to specifications and regulations.
- Maintains sufficient inventory of paint, supplies, scrapers, brushes, pans, and other materials.
- Receives and reviews work orders for priority status and designated time schedules.
- Estimates time, material, and cost requirements; requisitions materials and supplies.
- Prepares surfaces for painting by removing old paint, washing, scraping, sanding, patching holes, cracks, and joints.
- Moves and rearranges furniture, spreads canvas, and erects scaffolding.
- Selects premixed paints or prepares paints by thinning and blending.
- Hangs wallpaper, measures wall space, cuts wallpaper to size, and applies it to walls.
- Loads and unloads equipment, fills and empties paint containers, and inspects jobs prior to completion.
- Operates electric sanding machines, parking lot stripers, and uses hand tools such as scrapers, putty knives, tape measures, razor blades, paint brushes, and rollers.
- Maintains records and documents related to corrective maintenance activities, including mixing instructions, sketches, and blueprints.
- Completes work orders in a timely, legible manner to maintain meaningful equipment histories.
- Responds to emergency calls promptly.
- Applies cost-effective measures to improve efficiency and support cost containment while delivering high-quality service.
- Provides customer service consistent with hospital policy.
- Keeps work area clean, orderly, and safe; ensures proper care of tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Demonstrates safe work practices, follows safety rules, and participates in organizational and department safety programs.
- Improves patient safety by understanding and applying patient safety goals to prevent preventable deaths or injuries.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent (required); related trade school education (preferred).
- Three to five years of experience as a professional painter (required); four years in a hospital setting (preferred).
