Union Service Truck Driver

About the role

The Service Truck Driver, as a Class A/B OR CDL truck driver, is responsible for delivering temporary or permanent construction materials to job sites, inspecting and maintaining the assigned Service Truck, and performing a variety of tasks related to heavy construction projects.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains clear assignments and instructions each morning or the evening prior by the supervisor
  • Drives safely to and from each job site as assigned
  • Organizes and secures load down to truck bed for delivery to and from job sites, providers, etc.
  • Limits and unloads cargo utilizing the truck mounted crane
  • Delivers materials to sites as needed and as instructed
  • Follows all state and federal motor carrier rules and regulation established by the Department of Transportation
  • Prepares DOT required log of time on duty and driving
  • Completes daily equipment pre-inspection
  • Operates, when required, under Lift Director supervision and works with crews on various types of activities associated with the heavy/civil, roadway and bridge construction industry
  • Maintains compliance responsibilities set forth in the OSHA standard Subpart CC, Cranes and Derricks in Construction (29 CFR 1926.1400–1442)
  • Communicates and responds accordingly to radio commands and/or with the ASME B30.5 Standard Hand Signals for Mobile Crane Operations regarding lift communications and/or lift instructions
  • Maintains visual and radio contact with ground operators according to best practices and site safety regulations, and respond to questions and instructions clearly and quickly
  • Provides additional support to other crane operators as necessary, including working overtime to complete tasks, operating several types of equipment and training, or monitoring junior operators
  • Maintains a current Load Chart and Operations Manual within the Service Truck cab and demonstrates Load Chart proficiency and load chart usage, all in the language of the manufacturer’s instruction manual
  • Demonstrates proficiency with the set up and operation of the crane’s computer in correct configuration and work within limitations
  • Participates and performs lifting load planning; executes the approved Lift Plan accordingly
  • Maintains compliance with OSHA requirements in connection with crane operation including daily inspection log, focus on Service Truck operation, and being able to safely hoist, move and place materials and objects using appropriate attachments
  • Communicate effectively
  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with OSHA, State regulations, and all safety policies and procedures
  • Inspect equipment on daily basis to ensure safe operation before use
  • Knowledgeable in OSHA regulations regarding hoisting methods and practices, swing barricades and back up alarms
  • Skilled with mobile phone + apps for truck maintenance and routing

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or general education degree
  • Service Truck Certification
  • 2+ years CDL Experience operating Service Truck
  • Valid NCCCO or NCCER certification
  • Pass DOT physical including drug screen prior to employment
  • Commercial driver’s license and DOT card

Qualifications

  • Ability to work overtime as needed

  • Ability to read a map and follow GPS directions
  • Ability to work effectively with minor supervision
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities effectively
  • Maintain and abide by all safety requirements
  • Follow basic instructions in English
  • Report any problems and/or safety hazards to your foreman or, in their absence the crew lead or Superintendent or Safety Officer
