About the role
This role primarily involves the installation and decommissioning of network and cabling infrastructure within a Data Center environment. A key aspect is the continuous pursuit of sustainable, repeatable, and improved solutions and processes. The individual is expected to provide leadership to crews and provide structured feedback on project progress to various stakeholders, ensuring high-quality workmanship, maintaining Data Center cleanliness, and adhering to all production, safety, and quality standards, codes, and industry best practices. The role also requires collaboration with stakeholders to resolve project obstacles and the ability to read and comprehend blueprints and building documentation.
Responsibilities
- Must be willing to travel for extended periods of time depending on project location.
- Be able to work outside in different types of weather conditions (cold, snow, rain, and heat).
- Experience in the installation of Maxcell, Microproduct, innerduct and fiber optic cable in a Data Center environment.
- Experience in fiber splicing and testing.
- Deliver sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes, always with an eye on improvement.
- Provide structured feedback on project progress to Stakeholders.
- Exhibit quality workmanship on all work and maintain Data Center cleanliness.
- Follow all production, safety and quality standards, codes, and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with various Stakeholders to remove project obstacles.
- Reading and comprehending blueprints, building documentation/redline work and cable schedules.
- Broad understanding of Data Center infrastructure technologies.
Requirements
- Knowledge and use of basic telecom hand tools.
- Minimum of 1-3 years' experience in a lead technician capacity.
- Must be capable of leading a crew of 5-10 technicians.
- Demonstrated experience developing, mentoring and training crew members.
- Must understand customer service, perform job walks and communicate with customer for job requirements.
- Able to accept responsibility for the outcome of work performed by him/her and/or by employee that directly report to him/her.
- Clear understanding of job safety requirements.
- Ability to read and understand project design documents.
- Capable of maintaining orderly paperwork, capable of running midsize to large projects and service jobs.
- Possess skills to dress all types of cable and perform all types of terminations and should include basic understanding of fiber equipment, all types of cable and fiber terminations.
- Basic understanding of both copper and fiber cable testing and troubleshooting.
- Track and review timesheets for your crew.
- Maintain paperwork and run service jobs.
- Effectively communicate with Foreman, Leads, Technicians and Superintendent.
- Track lessons learned as they occur.
- Coordinates with QAQC on quality status walks.
- Identify the strengths and weaknesses of crew members.
- Able to drive company vehicles and the ability to pull and back up trailers.
- Able to blow fiber optic cables.
