About the role
Our Wholesale Solutions team at AXA XL is poised for growth in the dynamic world of Excess and Surplus lines. AXA XL's Excess and Surplus business unit offers Umbrella and Excess Liability coverage to North American based Insureds. Underwriting teams are based in the United States, Canada, Bermuda and Dublin. Coverage is written on an occurrence, claims-made or occurrence reported basis. Our broad range of appetite includes clients in manufacturing, retail, construction, energy, rail, and many more.
Responsibilities
- Developing and managing a team of underwriters to win new business and retain existing customers.
- Supporting the successful execution of the region’s strategic plan with a focus on assigned Territory.
- Overseeing referrals and the health of the portfolio by monitoring losses, retention and pipeline management.
- Handling an existing portfolio of E&S Casualty business, meeting growth goals and ensuring profitability for the region.
- Evaluating appropriate risk premium by considering the risk costs inherent to the E&S Casualty Sector, as well as the underwriting and general administration costs to ensure profitability.
- Initiating opportunities for cross-selling.
- Controlling timely implementation of New and Renewal accounts according to quality standards (including policy- and invoice issuance).
- Monitoring premium collection according to standards and taking actions.
- Advising, assisting and servicing clients on insurance and risk management matters to ensure client satisfaction and respond to client and AXA XL queries in a timely manner.
- Ensuring timely implementation of Policy endorsements and proper hand-over for implementation.
- Developing skills, knowledge, and competencies of less experienced colleagues.
- Creating visibility in the assigned territory by communicating underwritten appetite and generating new opportunities such as by building and maintaining outstanding broker relationships.
Travel Requirements would be estimated to be 20%. You will report to the Head of E&S Casualty, West.
Requirements
- Extensive amount of E&S General Liability and/or Excess Underwriting Experience.
- Extensive Underwriting and/or equivalent Broker experience with thorough knowledge of underwriting, rating methodologies, forms and business processes.
- Previous underwriting management experience is preferred.
- Outstanding existing marketing relationships within their assigned territory with experience in a production underwriting role.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred; professional designations CPCU, ARM a plus.
- Possess in-depth underwriting expertise across general classes and is able to manage a high volume portfolio.
- Self-starter who is organized and able to work self-supported as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced team-centric environment.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain outstanding insured and broker contacts.
- Ability to demonstrate critical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, collaboration and presentation skills and willingness to mentor others.

Pay
The U.S. base salary range for this position is USD 132,200 - 220,400. Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual’s skills, experience and location.
