Underwriting Analyst

Job Description

Performs tasks associated with anticipating key business, marketplace and competitor dynamics in developing and implementing strategies to optimize business results which include retention and growth targets while mitigating risk for large and jumbo groups.

Primary Focus

Establishes the appropriate rate and conditions of offering to achieve revenue, membership and margin goals.

Skills And Knowledge

• Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services.
• Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
• Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
• Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
• Knowledge of personal computer related software applications including advanced features of excel and/or other financial analysis modeling software.
• Demonstrated learning agility, in order to quickly gain expertise on multiple products, services, tools, systems and processes (preferred).
• Demonstrated ability to accurately calculate, read, and develop algebraic rating formulas.
• Demonstrated ability to balance conflicting deadlines and meet established departmental turnaround goals.
• Understanding of benefits, Sutter Health plan rating principles and methodologies, group enrollment guidelines, legal restrictions on reporting and rating and an understanding of how healthcare products are marketed and delivered to customers.
• Knowledge of the market environment for health care in California, primarily in the Sutter health plan offered service area regions.
