About the role

AIG is reimagining insurance to make a bigger difference to the world. As an Underwriter I, Specialty Energy Middle Market, you will contribute to our industry-leading SEMM Retail Casualty team. Your role involves underwriting and servicing an existing renewal book with assistance from other team members who will seek new business opportunities. You will interact with top nationwide, regional, local, and wholesale brokers and insureds, gaining experience in various coverages, client industries, and specializations.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite and service an existing renewal book with assistance from other team members.
• Constantly interact with top nationwide, regional, local, and wholesale brokers and insureds.
• Evaluate, prioritize, and select submissions to be underwritten.
• Analyze information and identify risk exposures, special or common hazards, claims experience, and appropriate controls.
• Adhere to guidelines and underwriting discipline to minimize exposure and appropriately price risks.
• Ensure underwriting files and services adhere to standards and compliance guidelines.
• Offer coverage, terms, and conditions that generate profit for the company while meeting the needs of the customer.
• Capture market intelligence and broker feedback on accounts.
• Demonstrate technical expertise with product(s) in the Financial Lines portfolio.
• Provide superior customer service to brokers and clients (internal & external).

Requirements

• 1+ years of relevant professional experience; Insurance experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, preferred.
• Working knowledge of financial statements and analysis.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work in dynamic, rapidly changing environments, adapt to changing requirements, and collaborate with a wide range of colleagues to quickly deliver solutions.
• Detail-oriented with demonstrated ability to self-direct, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
• Takes initiative on projects and assignments, seeks alternate solutions when necessary.
• Highly motivated and results-oriented.
• Exposure to NA Casualty products is preferred (Environmental, Excess or Primary Casualty, NA Auto, WC, AL, GL, DBA, Foreign Casualty).

• Experience in underwriting and servicing existing renewal books.
• Knowledge of financial statements and analysis.

• Exposure to NA Casualty products (Environmental, Excess or Primary Casualty, NA Auto, WC, AL, GL, DBA, Foreign Casualty).

Pay

The base salary range for this role is $68,000-$91,000, with the possibility of a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.

Schedule

This role is primarily based in New York, with a flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of the team and the business.
