Key Responsibilities
- Analyze, evaluate, and underwrite new and renewal energy insurance submissions, including property, casualty, and specialty lines.
- Assess complex risks within the energy sector, such as upstream, midstream, downstream, power generation, and renewables.
- Develop and maintain broker relationships to drive profitable growth and retention of the energy portfolio.
- Negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing in line with Starr’s risk appetite and guidelines.
- Collaborate with claims, risk engineering, and actuarial teams to holistically assess and price risks.
- Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks in the energy market.
- Support and mentor junior underwriting staff as required.
- Ensure compliance with Starr underwriting policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in portfolio reviews, reporting, and audits as needed.
Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience (preferably in insurance, business, engineering, or related field).
- 3+ years of commercial underwriting experience, with a focus on energy sector risks highly preferred.
- Strong technical underwriting, analytical, and negotiation skills.
- Deep knowledge of energy industry operations, trends, and insurance products.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with brokers and clients.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency with underwriting platforms and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional insurance designations (e.g., CPCU, ARM, ARe) are an asset.
- Familiarity with international energy risks or complex/specialty energy placements.
