About the Role

Jet Direct Mortgage is seeking an experienced and ambitious Senior Mortgage Underwriter specializing in VA loans to join our fast-paced, goal-oriented, and supportive environment. This role offers visibility and the opportunity to be part of a growing organization.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with government and bank regulations.
• Perform income calculations, analyze tax returns, read credit reports, and identify red flags.
• Underwrite loans for co-ops and condominiums.
• Conduct collateral analysis and review appraisal and title reports.
• Prepare customer commitments with any additional required conditions.
• Communicate decisions (approval, suspense, counter, or denial) to appropriate individuals within 30 days of application.
• Apply thorough knowledge of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac underwriting guidelines and automated underwriting engines (DU/LP).
• Manage a substantial pipeline of loans in a timely manner, focusing on accuracy and detail.

Requirements

• Current CHUMS Certification.
• 5+ years of FHA/Conventional underwriting experience.
• Strong capability to work in multiple systems, such as Encompass (paperless environment).
• Knowledgeable in regulatory, policy, and compliance issues pertaining to the mortgage industry.
• Familiarity with regulatory issues in both underwriting/finance and real estate.
