About the role
The Underwriter provides financial, credit, and trend analysis to support the delivery of the Bank's credit products and services to clients and prospects. The role stays current on industry-related, political, and regulatory issues to determine their impact on specific industries or clients, independently structures and evaluates credit requests, assesses borrower creditworthiness, and recommends credit decisions to Credit Administration.
How You'll Make a Difference
- Evaluate and underwrite routine to moderately complex credit requests, including new credits and modifications to existing credit relationships.
- Recommend credit structures, covenant packages, and risk mitigation strategies appropriate to the transaction and borrower profile, and escalate complex structures and policy exceptions.
- Partner with Relationship Managers, Credit Administration, and other stakeholders throughout the underwriting process to gather information, evaluate risks, and support timely credit decisions.
- Analyze financial statements, tax returns, cash flow, collateral, and financial projections to assess borrower creditworthiness and support underwriting recommendations.
- Manage select credits independently while escalating more complex structures and exceptions.
- Develop proficiency in credit structuring, industry analysis, portfolio management, and risk assessment to support ongoing professional growth and increasingly complex underwriting assignments.
- Review spreads, due diligence documentation, and underwriting analyses prepared by Credit Analysts and provide feedback, coaching, and guidance.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
What You'll Bring
- 2–4 years of underwriting, credit analysis, or commercial banking experience.
- Ability to analyze financial statements, including profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow statements.
- Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to interface effectively and professionally with senior-level management.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Intermediate understanding of financial accounting preferred.
- Knowledge of lending, specifically cash flow and collateral analysis and loan structuring, preferred.
- Experience analyzing business financial statements, individual financial statements, and tax returns preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
