Responsibilities
- Prepare and install underground pipelines, including water lines, storm and sanitary sewer.
- Lay out pipe routes according to specifications or blueprints, and coordinate with supervisors.
- Cut pipes to required lengths.
- Assist in aligning pipes during pipeline construction.
- Align and position pipes to prepare them for welding or sealing.
- Check slopes for conformance to requirements using levels or lasers.
- Connect pipe pieces and seal joints using welding equipment, cement, or glue.
- Tap and drill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices.
- Cover pipes with earth or other materials.
- Grade and level trench bases using tamping machines and hand tools.
- Train others in pipe-laying techniques.
- Perform other general labor and construction-related duties as required.
Environmental Working Conditions
- All work is performed outside in heat, cold, and inclement weather.
- Exposure to all elements of nature.
- Exposure to all types of terrain.
- Exposure to loud noise.
- Exposure to fumes, odors, gasses, dusts, etc.
- Work in close proximity to heavy traffic.
Physical Requirements
- Standing.
- Walking.
- Climbing, stooping, and bending.
- Periodic lifting of 10 to 50 pounds.
