About the role

This is a full-time, on-site role based in East Hampton, NY, responsible for leading crews in the installation, repair, and maintenance of underground utility piping systems. The Foreman oversees daily field operations, including planning work sequences, assigning tasks, monitoring productivity, and ensuring safety and quality standards are consistently met. The role coordinates with project managers, inspectors, and other trades to maintain schedules, resolve site issues, and ensure accurate installation according to plans and specifications.

Day-to-day tasks include supervising heavy equipment use, performing layout and basic carpentry where needed, inspecting completed work, maintaining tools and equipment, and documenting job progress and site conditions. The role also requires clear communication with team members, enforcing safety protocols, and mentoring crew members to support performance and professional growth.

Responsibilities

  • Lead crews in the installation, repair, and maintenance of underground utility piping systems.
  • Plan work sequences, assign tasks, and monitor productivity.
  • Ensure safety and quality standards are consistently met.
  • Coordinate with project managers, inspectors, and other trades to maintain schedules and resolve site issues.
  • Supervise heavy equipment use and perform layout and basic carpentry as needed.
  • Inspect completed work and maintain tools and equipment.
  • Document job progress and site conditions.
  • Communicate clearly with team members and enforce safety protocols.
  • Mentor crew members to support performance and professional growth.

Qualifications

  • Strong supervisory skills, including crew leadership, task delegation, and on-site problem solving.
  • Experience working with heavy equipment commonly used in utility trenching and pipe installation.
  • Effective communication skills for coordinating with crews, project stakeholders, and inspectors.
  • Basic carpentry skills relevant to utility installations, shoring, and site structures.
  • Maintenance skills for tools, equipment, and site infrastructure to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Relevant experience as a Foreman or Lead in underground utilities, civil construction, or related fields is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and industry safety standards, trench safety, and utility locate procedures is beneficial.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and utility drawings; familiarity with local codes and regulations is an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to the East Hampton, NY job site required.
