About the role
The Underground Reliability Engineer plays a crucial role in enhancing the reliability, availability, and performance of underground mining equipment and infrastructure at OceanaGold. This position requires a deep understanding of reliability engineering principles, asset management, and maintenance best practices.
Responsibilities
- Analyze equipment performance and conduct root cause investigations to eliminate failures and improve reliability.
- Develop and implement maintenance strategies to optimize equipment performance, reduce downtime, and support operational objectives.
- Lead and facilitate root cause failure analyses (RCFA) for critical mobile and fixed asset failures.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions to improve reliability and extend component life.
- Monitor and report on reliability KPIs, ensuring performance targets are achieved and sustained.
- Provide technical support and mentorship to maintenance and operations personnel.
- Drive reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) and continuous improvement initiatives across underground operations.
- Support maintenance budgeting, forecasting, and cost control activities.
- Develop business cases for reliability improvement projects and asset replacement strategies.
- Track and report the financial impact of reliability initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or 10 years of technical maintenance experience maintaining UG hard rock mining equipment.
- Minimum 3–5 years of engineering experience within mining, heavy industry, or a related field.
- Experience with equipment reliability analysis, maintenance systems, and failure investigations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Qualifications
- Preferred experience in underground mining operations.
- Direct experience with underground mobile equipment such as drills, loaders, trucks, bolters, and auxiliary support equipment.
- Proficiency with CMMS/EAM systems such as SAP, Oracle, JDE, Pronto, or similar platforms.
- Experience using business intelligence and data visualization tools such as Power BI.
- Strong understanding of root cause analysis methodologies, including 5-Why and FMEA.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and data analysis tools.
