About the Role
An Underground Lineman performs skilled underground electrical activities, including the installation, maintenance, and upgrade of electrical and utility infrastructure systems. This position is based in Orlando and surrounding areas.
Responsibilities
- Provide services for the construction, operation, and maintenance of the customer's electrical distribution underground system.
- Operate and maintain reliable electrical service for consumers, including connecting, disconnecting, installing, removing, and relocating electrical devices such as switch cabinets and transformers.
- Investigate consumer complaints and make repairs to energized electrical distribution lines.
- Assume full responsibility for completed work, ensuring quality and timeliness.
- Perform routine line work without close supervision.
- Apply knowledge of basic and advanced electrical principles, customer specifications, and all phases of underground line construction.
- Perform splicing, terminating, and repairs of primary and secondary URD cables.
- Operate equipment necessary to complete jobs, such as bucket trucks and diggers.
- Maintain a full complement of underground lineman hand tools.
- Comply with proper safety standards, procedures, and company work practices.
- Work involves physical exertion, heavy lifting, and exposure to inclement weather and hazardous conditions of high-voltage energized lines and equipment.
- Perform tasks requiring walking, stooping, bending, climbing, kneeling, reaching, crawling, pushing, pulling, and working in awkward positions or enclosed spaces.
- Lift up to 50 lbs.
- Communicate clearly and accurately, with good hearing for safety compliance in a hot line environment.
- Travel and report for 24-hour standby during storm relief operations throughout the United States.
Requirements
- Adhere to all Company Safety and Health Policies.
- 3-5 years of recent underground lineman experience.
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License and ability to maintain a Medical Card certified by a DOT Medical Examiner.
- Ability to work in storm restoration operations to rebuild and/or repair damaged power systems.
- Work outside 100% of the time in inclement weather, including heat, cold, rain, and possible snow.
- Subject to random alcohol and drug testing and background checks.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Properly inspect PPE and follow Company safety rules and policies.
- Vast experience in the construction and repair of electrical underground systems and power lines, with a strong emphasis on safety, OSHA regulations, and knowledge of working on power lines in various conditions.
