Underground Construction Operator

About the role

The Underground Construction Operator will collaborate with Visionary’s Engineering and Construction Management teams to build and maintain the underground fiber optic plant across Visionary’s service territories. This role involves trenching, boring, installing drops, and placing handholes in varied terrains, including both underground and aerial plant, as well as fiber-to-the-premise projects. Candidates must be adaptable, provide critical in-field feedback, and communicate effectively for quick decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Work under the Construction Manager’s direction to ensure safe and productive construction practices and methods.
• Operate all requisite machinery safely and proficiently to complete jobs.
• Create daily production reports, track material usage, log work hours, and maintain accurate “as-built” maps for constructed areas.
• Partner with Visionary’s fleet management team to ensure vehicle and machine maintenance is completed.

Requirements

• 5 or more years of telecom underground construction experience.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; must have a CDL or be able to obtain one for this role.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to pass a drug test and background screen.
• Flexibility to work outside standard 8am-5pm hours and travel throughout a large service territory.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.

Knowledge of fiber mapping software is a plus.

Pay

$30–$37 per hour. Final wage will be determined within the posted range based on experience.
