About the Role
As an Underground Apprentice Lineman, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining the reliability and resilience of the nation's power grid. Under the direction of the Foreman, you will safely install, troubleshoot, repair, and remove overhead/underground distribution power lines, set/stand poles, and install lighting within the scope of your training. You will operate equipment such as bucket trucks, digger derricks, pickup trucks, excavation, and track equipment.
Responsibilities
- Use apprentice-level knowledge of electrical line work to safely construct and maintain electric distribution lines.
- Climb poles of all types and perform tasks off the poles, including changing out arms, transformers, and conductors, depending on experience level.
- Utilize general knowledge of working around energized lines/equipment and progress to more specific knowledge to construct, maintain, and repair electrical systems, both de-energized and energized.
- Assist upper-class linemen by providing tools, materials, and supplies.
- Prepare equipment and worksites for effective completion of assignments.
- Assist ground crew operations as directed.
- Drive and operate necessary equipment to frame and set poles, lay wire, connect and disconnect services.
- Respond to power outages and customer problems, troubleshooting to restore power.
Requirements
- Minimum of 4 years' experience.
- Proficient in troubleshooting primary and secondary systems, identifying, diagnosing, and resolving technical issues efficiently.
- Skilled in splicing operations, including setup, execution, and quality assurance.
- Experienced in switching procedures, ensuring safe, accurate, and timely operations.
- Experienced in building risers, including installation, routing, and securing of riser cables in accordance with safety and construction standards.
- Capable of performing moderate overhead work, demonstrating proper safety practices and physical ability to complete tasks at elevated heights.
- Ability to read and understand technical information, manuals, policies, procedures, work orders, blueprints, and diagrams.
- Ability to handle emergency situations, hazardous conditions, multiple priorities, frequent interruptions, and time constraints.
- Strong oral and written communication skills in English to convey information, instructions, and ideas to other personnel.
- Dependable and trustworthy.
- Possess own basic hand tools.
- Train for Lineman responsibilities.
