Principle Duties And Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
  • Maintain a high degree of accuracy in the production, use, recognition, and analysis of ultrasound images and patterns used for diagnosis.
  • Review images to ensure acceptable quality and completeness for diagnostic purposes.
  • Possess, utilize, and maintain knowledge about the bioeffects of high-frequency sound waves, applying principles of ALARA.
  • Accommodate the next available patient at all times.
  • Receive and greet patients, obtain necessary medical history, and provide patients with procedure instructions/information.
  • Handle patients in a caring, courteous, and professional manner at all times.
  • Operate equipment according to specific/recognized procedures and in accordance with established routines and techniques.
  • Perform quality control procedures when required and ensure proper operation of equipment at all times.
  • Responsible for immediately reporting any concerns related to equipment operation.
  • Remain sensitive to the needs of the patient through good communication, patient assessment, patient monitoring, and patient care skills.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times.
  • Utilize critical thinking and use independent, professional, and ethical judgment in all aspects of work.
  • Follow prescribed techniques and procedures for maintenance of aseptic conditions.
  • Ensure that images, examination requisitions, and other related records are properly completed with the correct patient identification, statistical, and billing information.
  • During lulls in technical duties, coordinate with reception and other personnel to provide additional assistance outside of primary areas of responsibility.
  • Inform the Site Manager when supplies are low and order necessary supplies to ensure continuous and efficient operation of the unit, as needed.
  • Available, as scheduled, to provide technologist duties at specified times and places assigned.
  • Assist the Radiologist when required.
  • Work with, assist, and/or teach new employees and/or students as assigned.

Basic Knowledge And Experience

  • One year of formal training in an accredited School of Ultrasound and/or one year of experience as a diagnostic medical sonographer.
  • Experience in Abdominal, OB/GYN, small parts, and Vascular Ultrasound is required.
  • Exceptional communication skills with patients, fellow colleagues, and Radiologists.
  • Sonographers must obtain RVT or RVS certification within one year of hire or after completing an accredited ultrasound program.
  • Must obtain and maintain additional accreditation and/or certification(s) required by the State, Federal Government, and RIMI within areas of expertise and to personally maintain the highest professional recognition levels available.
  • Must be registered in ultrasound by the ARDMS in at least one application. Must be current with all CME requirements.

Physical Demands

  • Walks and stands intermittently throughout the day.
  • May lift/position patients and supplies up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to move patients from scanner tables and transport patients in wheelchairs and/or stretchers.
  • Ability to crouch, reach, and lift to allow appropriate manipulation positioning and placement of ancillary equipment.

  • Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-4:30 PM OR 8:30 AM-5:00 PM
