Responsibilities
- Operate ultrasound equipment to produce and record images of various areas of the body.
- Interpret and analyze diagnostic images to provide preliminary findings for physicians.
- Maintain patient records, reports, and other administrative tasks.
- Monitor screen during scan to ensure that the image produced is satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
- Adjust equipment controls as per the physician’s order to capture a clear image.
- Maintain ultrasound equipment and sterilize the room in which the procedure takes place.
- Determine whether scope of exam should be extended, based on findings.
- Consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
Knowledge
- Ultrasound Technician, or Sonographer, must possess a blend of technical proficiency, attention to detail, and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Understanding of human anatomy, medical terminology, and the operation of sophisticated medical equipment.
- Ability to empathize with patients, ensure patient comfort and communicate effectively is equally crucial.
- Proficiency in operating ultrasound equipment.
- Ability to interpret ultrasound images.
- Familiarity with patient management systems.
- Knowledge of safety and sanitation standards.
- Ability to perform minor maintenance on ultrasound equipment.

Requirements
- Associate’s degree in sonography or a related field.
