About the role
SAIC is currently seeking a motivated and energetic UI/UX Designer (Journeyman) to join our team in Ashburn, VA. This position requires on-site work in Ashburn, VA 5 days per week for the first year of employment. After the first year, a hybrid schedule (2 days on-site) may be available depending on team needs.
Responsibilities
- Conduct user research and usability testing to ensure designs meet user and client requirements.
- Optimize services and products for a range of clients.
- Develop mockups for design and development teams.
- Create structural wireframes, mockups, and task flows tailored for component-based front-end frameworks like Angular and/or React.
- Partner closely with engineering teams to align wireframes with framework constraints, maximizing component reusability and reducing development friction.
- Deliver precise design handoffs, component specifications, and interactive prototypes that map clearly to front-end development structures.
- Develop and maintain design wireframes and specifications.
- Collaborate with visual designers and creative directors to incorporate brand identity.
- Communicate screen designs, interaction models, end-to-end experiences, and target audience to project team members.
- Consider the human-computer interface element of a design.
- Compare the user experience of existing applications and design better alternatives.
- Keep current with industry trends and competitor products, communicating design prototypes and ideas to developers.
- Work with development teams to design and implement attractive designs while maintaining consistency.
- Develop task flows and wireframes based on user needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Strong understanding of UI/UX design patterns for modern front-end frameworks, specifically Angular (or Angular Material) and React.
- Expert proficiency in high-utility wireframing and prototyping tools (Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD) with a focus on logical layout hierarchy.
- Solid conceptual understanding of modern web technologies (HTML5, CSS3/SASS, and responsive layouts like Flexbox/Grid) to guarantee design feasibility.
- Experience with Adobe, Sketch, Jira, Confluence, and wireframing tools.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proven ability to present concepts, ideas, and insights to the project team and clients.
- Familiarity with information architecture and interaction design.
- Background in project research and management, and a strong portfolio of design projects.
- Solid understanding of user experience design fundamentals, such as rules of typography and data visualization techniques.
- Self-motivated with the ability to continually meet with team leads.
- Demonstrated analytical capability and strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong writing and presentation skills.
- Flexibility to work in a constantly changing environment.
- Ability to obtain and hold a public trust position and favorable suitability based on a CBP Background Investigation.
- Must be a US Citizen.
Pay
Target salary range: $80,001 - $120,000. The estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
