About the role
The Supply Chain Technician ensures that all materials are received, stored, and distributed in a proper and prudent manner while maintaining complete accountability for inputting and retrieving data in the materials management module.
Core duties and responsibilities
- Affords assistance and communication with Buyers and/or Supply Chain leadership to maintain appropriate inventory levels and provides PAR level recommendations as needed.
- Maintain an understanding of supply automation system(s) for daily restocking, inventory adjustments, and PAR level management, if applicable.
- Maintains an understanding of the Medical Material Information System (MMIS) software and other technical equipment.
- Enter (Key), fill, and deliver all supply requisitions.
- Deliver supplies throughout the hospital in a timely and accurate manner.
- Aid hospital employees with ordering supplies, to include walk-up and emergency orders.
- Enter (Key) patient charges (If applicable) Labelling of supplies with charge stickers if applicable.
- Follow departmental polices pertaining to appropriate attire (scrubs, mask, shoe covers, etc.) when stocking specialty areas (e.g. OR and Sterile Processing).
- Aid in mailroom functions and duties, including Do shipping on a daily basis (FedEx, UPS, etc.).
- Maintain storeroom area, answering the phone and providing complete coverage.
- Responsible for disposing all trash properly.
- Participate in physical inventories.
- Conducts cycle counts on a routine basis to ensure appropriate inventory levels are maintained.
- Performs verification procedures before accepting any materials from carrier.
- Performs physical verification and documentation of material contents received.
- Documents the shipment on official records.
- Maintains bone and tissue documentation from time of entry to facility for chain of custody per TJC standards.
- Place merchandise and paperwork in proper areas.
- Handle discrepancies on physical verification process.
- Keeps dock, storeroom and receiving areas clean and orderly.
- Operate material handling equipment (pallet jack, carts and hand trucks) safely.
- Maintain a good working relationship with co-workers and provide excellent customer service to all internal and external customers.
- Assist in courier runs to any and all areas, both in and out of state.
- Restock supply items and perform routine checks for expired products on code carts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with safety standards.
Physical requirements
- Manual dexterity and physical ability to stand, walk and handle materials for prolong periods of time.
- Must be capable of lifting up to 60 pounds and pushing loaded carts weighting in excess of 600 pounds.
- Must possess visual and oral acuity.

Skills and abilities
- Ability to read, write and understand English proficiently.
- Math skills necessary to count, inventory and convert each/box/case quantities.
- Must possess excellent communication skills (both phone and personal).
- Must be able to work in a high stress environment.
- Must understand and practice excellent personal hygiene.
- Ability to be scheduled for work based on operational needs of the hospital.
- Possesses the ability to deal tactfully and harmoniously with coworkers, staff, and guests.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and follows correct chain of command in handling challenges and issues, including crisis situations.
- Ability to organize and prioritize time and tasks to achieve a well-coordinated work effort and to effectively meet work schedules including the ability to integrate multiple factors which may impact patient care.
