UHC-Patient Care Tech Night Shift-7 North

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
• Must meet one of the following:
  • Nationally certified patient care technician.
  • Completion of WVUM Patient Care Technician program.
  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification issued by the state where services are provided (Ohio – Nurse Aide through Ohio Nurses Aide Registry; West Virginia – Nurse Aide through WV DHHR/OHFLAC).

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior patient care experience.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

• Observe and report all patient concerns or changes in condition to a registered nurse immediately.
• Assist the Registered Nurse with admission, transfer, discharge, and general patient care duties.
• Record vital signs and assist with personal hygiene and other patient comfort measures.
• Record oral intake and outputs, including temperature, blood pressure, and other monitoring.
• Assist in specimen collection and other activities of assigned patients.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment to help prevent and control infections and ensure safety of patients, visitors, and employees.
• Report equipment repairs to appropriate personnel in a timely manner according to departmental procedure.
• Prepare patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to departmental procedure.
• Communicate with the RN regarding nutrition issues such as poor appetite or lack of understanding of diet changes.
• Assist the department with administrative tasks to support operations.
• Answer patient call bells and relay messages to appropriate personnel.
• Complete annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards, through CBLs, trainings, in‑services, and competency validation.

The work environment includes close collaboration with others, irregular or protracted hours, exposure to biohazards, infectious diseases, deceased individuals, water, and electrical hazards associated with patient‑care equipment.
