UHC - CT Tech (Part Time Nights)
About the role
The primary responsibility of this role is to perform diagnostic CT procedures within the CT Department utilizing specific equipment for that purpose. The role involves rotating through diagnostic radiology as assigned and ensuring the practice of radiation and general safety at all times.
Responsibilities
- Cleans and disinfects rooms and equipment following each patient exam, using current infection control policies.
- Performs examinations per Physician’s orders and explains procedures to the patients.
- Documents any variations from protocol due to patient’s condition or other unknown cause and relays patient history and clinical data to Radiologist.
- Observes patient and equipment and reports any unusual occurrences or changes.
- Transports and assists patients as needed.
- Documents status of patient in reference to radiology/CT procedure on patient’s chart.
- Maintains stock supplies, performs general office duties, responsible for proper film labeling and following prescribed techniques to assure acceptable quality and consistency.
- Practices safe radiation exposure and protection as well as general safety for patient’s, visitors, and staff at all times.
- Complies with policy and procedures for the departmental and hospital wide programs.
- Participates in the patient safety training and patient protection, including the needs and methods to report medical/ healthcare errors and abuse.
- Produces diagnostic quality images utilizing CT equipment and effectively judges CT images for proper technique to best demonstrate anatomy and pathology.
- Performs critical procedures under stress during emergency procedures.
- If applicable, performs diagnostic studies using mobile radiographic equipment in emergency or patient rooms as ordered by physician.
- Performs diagnostic studies in surgical suite with C-Arm and other equipment.
- Provides care specific to the needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
- May perform IV insertion/blood draws.
- Administers IV/Oral/Rectal contrast for CT imaging procedures per radiologist protocol/department manual and ordering physician/care provider order.
- Utilizes PACS to ensure exams are completed and available for the radiologist to read and for the referring physician/care provider review.
Requirements
- Graduate of a Medical Imaging Program.
- Radiography certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technologist the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) within 6 months of hire.
- Current or temporary Radiography license as required by state board where services will be provided.
- State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable).
Qualifications
- One (1) year of experience as a computed tomography technologist.
Skills
- Knowledge of growth and development, understanding of the patient’s needs and scope of treatment.
- Understands the dynamics for each patient incorporating biophysical, bio-psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, spiritual, cultural, ethical and discharge planning needs.
- Knowledge of total care of patients, whose disease is not responsive to curative treatment, focusing on the control of pain and other symptoms.
