About the role

The UGE Drill Foreman leads the crew in completing daily tasks related to the construction and maintenance of underground power lines, from plant/station to meter base, auxiliary facilities, and equipment for electricity distribution. This position oversees the Line team, reads project blueprints, and is responsible for production while working with personnel from other departments.

Responsibilities

• Operates Directional Drill for installation of underground telecommunications cable conduit, including fiber optic cable.
• Ensures safety of the public and other underground utility facilities.
• Performs all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment.
• Sets up and cleans up work sites, including traffic and pedestrian control.
• Reads utility locates and coordinates daylighting of these facilities.
• Ensures all applicable permits and locates are complete and on site.
• Inspects work in progress to ensure workmanship conforms to specifications.
• Operates construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
• Levels earth to final grade specifications.
• Operates vehicles and equipment, including trucks and other machinery as directed and certified.
• Performs proper maintenance by greasing, oiling, and making minor repairs on equipment.
• Leads teams in the field effectively and efficiently as directed by supervisor.
• Confirms bore path with install foreman and drill operator, including walking the bore path.
• Performs job site analysis (JSA) including completion of paperwork.
• Ensures proper clearances to install the product per standards.
• Records the depth of the tool head as required.
• Ensures the drill head is in a good position at the exit pit to connect the product.
• Oversees laborers and/or crew members' work and monitors time usage.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• OSHA 10 Certification.
• 3 years of Directional Drill experience.
• Valid CDL Class A driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

• 4 or more years of experience in Directional Drill.
• Experience with different size Vermeer or Ditch Witch units and various brands of locating equipment.
• Working experience in underground construction and Fiber builds.
• Knowledge of City, County, and State clearance codes and related regulations.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This job operates in a field environment, routinely requiring extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Work occurs in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind. The role is physically active, requiring the ability to bend, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds. Must have clarity of vision at varying distances, precise hand-eye coordination, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
