About the role
We are looking for an experienced video player engineer to join our team. You will be responsible for building and maintaining high-performance video playback experiences across web and mobile platforms.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize video player components for web and mobile applications
- Implement adaptive bitrate streaming (HLS, DASH) and low-latency playback
- Work with DRM systems and content protection workflows
- Debug and resolve playback issues across multiple devices and browsers
- Collaborate with product and design teams to deliver seamless user experiences
- Monitor and improve player performance, startup time, and buffering metrics
- Integrate analytics and monitoring for playback quality of experience
Qualifications
- 5+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on video or media playback
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and modern web frameworks
- Deep understanding of video codecs, containers, and streaming protocols (HLS, DASH, MP4, WebM)
- Experience with video player libraries (e.g., Shaka Player, hls.js, Video.js) or custom player development
- Familiarity with DRM technologies (Widevine, PlayReady, FairPlay)
- Knowledge of browser media APIs (MSE, EME, WebRTC)
- Experience with performance profiling and optimization for media applications
- Strong debugging skills across desktop and mobile browsers
Skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work independently and drive technical decisions
- Experience with video ad insertion (VAST, VPAID) is a plus
- Familiarity with native mobile development (iOS/Android) is a plus
- Knowledge of content delivery networks (CDNs) and edge caching strategies
