About the role

The positions are located within the Faculty of Medicine at Lund University. Departmental placement will be determined at the time of appointment. Premises, other infrastructure, and resources for the positions are financed in accordance with the standard model used by the Faculty. These are permanent, full-time positions (100% FTE) and are not combined positions, nor can they be converted into one. The purpose of these positions is to recruit internationally competitive researchers with documented ability to conduct independent high-quality research and with clear potential to develop into future leaders in academia.

Responsibilities

  • Independent research and development work
  • Supervision of M.Sc. and PhD students
  • Teaching in first- and second-cycle education
  • Leadership and administration
  • Additional work duties as required

Qualifications

Chapter 4, section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance states that a person shall be qualified for appointment as Senior Lecturer if they have demonstrated teaching expertise and been awarded a PhD or have corresponding research competence or other professional expertise relevant to the subject matter and duties of the post.

  • PhD in a subject area relevant to the position
  • Completed at least five weeks of training in teaching and learning in higher education, or acquired corresponding skills (unless valid reasons exist; in such cases, the required training must be completed within the first two years of employment)

Basis for assessment

In ranking qualified applicants, particular weight will be attached to scientific skills. The applicant shall have demonstrated scientific excellence through:

  • An independent research profile that has achieved international recognition and impact
  • Established an independent line of research distinct from previous supervisors or research environments
  • Secured ongoing competitive research funding as the principal investigator
  • Completed a postdoctoral period in a research environment other than where the doctoral degree was obtained
  • Published in peer-reviewed journals, with particular emphasis on publications where the applicant is the senior author

Additional considerations include:

  • Teaching skills and ability to supervise M.Sc. and PhD students in first-, second-, and third-cycle education
  • Leadership skills and ability to cooperate and integrate with the surrounding community
  • Potential for scientific development, including the ability to build and lead a competitive research environment over the long term
  • Potential to strengthen the Faculty’s international impact and contribute to the development of excellent research environments
  • Potential to develop into a future professor
