About the role
WRAL is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and versatile Anchor/Reporter who is passionate about telling impactful stories across all platforms. This role involves anchoring newscasts, producing high-quality content, and delivering compelling live reporting from the studio and the field.
Responsibilities
- News Presentation & Anchoring - Deliver news and information during live newscasts, special reports, and continuous coverage. Anchor from both the studio and the field with the ability to ad-lib and handle unscripted breaking news events. Write and present news clearly, engagingly, and with journalistic integrity.
- News Production & Content Creation - Ability to produce, shoot, write, and edit stories for all WRAL platforms. Develop original content and enterprise storytelling, particularly with a focus on local relevance and accountability. Utilize graphics and other visual elements to enhance storytelling clarity and impact.
- Multiplatform Reporting - Report across all WRAL platforms, including TV, digital channels, YouTube, and social media. Embrace process and accountability reporting, including pitching detailed, in-depth story pitches to make content distinct and original. Collaborate with producers, photographers, and the editorial team to shape newscasts and digital packages.
- Audience Engagement - Build and maintain a strong rapport with the WRAL audience through social media, community involvement, and public appearances. Actively engage with viewers and respond to feedback professionally and courteously.
- Research & Development - Research topics thoroughly to ensure factual and contextually accurate reporting. Stay informed on current events, emerging issues, and industry best practices. Participate in ongoing training to sharpen on-air delivery and storytelling abilities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in broadcast journalism, including on-air reporting or anchoring.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication.
- Strong editorial judgment and a commitment to ethical journalism.
- Proficiency in news production tools and editing software.
- Skilled in shooting and editing video using industry-standard equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to handle breaking news and live situations under pressure.
- Experience using social media professionally to support storytelling and audience connection.
- Deep commitment to public service journalism and community engagement.
- High standards of accuracy, fairness, and integrity.
- Strong sense of initiative and creativity.

Physical Demands
- Extended Periods of Standing/Sitting in a stationary position as needed for writing/reporting, conducting research, or supporting the broadcasting function.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate computers, editing equipment, microphones, and monitors.
- Occasionally required to lift, carry, and set up production equipment, such as cameras, tripods, and lighting gear (up to 25 lbs).
