Position Details

  • Employment Type: Part-Time
  • Hours: Up to 17 hours per week

  • Work Location: Connecticut Department of Correction facilities through the CT State CC Campuses*
  • Work Modality: On site; Position is not remote

Position Summary

The College is seeking part-time tutors who are passionate about supporting the academic success of students enrolled in the Second Chance Pell Program. The Part-Time Tutor provides academic support, assists with coursework, strengthens foundational skills, and fosters academic confidence and persistence. Tutors collaborate with faculty and program staff to promote student success in a structured and supportive learning environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Director of the Academic Center of Excellence (ACE), the Interim Associate Dean of Non-traditional Transition Programs or other administrator, the Tutor is accountable for providing assistance to faculty and students in assigned academic areas through effective performance in these essential functional areas:

  • Providing group tutoring.
  • Assisting students in carrying out assignments, including giving supplemental instruction in the academic discipline being applied.
  • Observing and providing information to faculty on student performance and on those requiring special faculty instruction.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in the assigned academic field* or a closely related field with one (1) or more years of related teaching and/or tutoring experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and training which would lead to the competencies required to carry out the position’s essential duties.
  • *Current academic disciplines: English & Mathematics

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience in tutoring and basic instruction in the assigned academic discipline.
  • Knowledge of principles and concepts of the assigned academic discipline.
  • Experience supporting students in academic goal setting and career planning.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including individuals with disabilities
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)

Special Requirements

  • Incumbent must go through a complete Department of Corrections Background check and attend a 3-hour Volunteer, Intern and Professional Partner (VIP) training on safety and security and do a Site Sense orientation for the Department of Correction facility in which they will tutor.

Salary

$37.74 hourly
