Pay
- Certified Teacher: $35.00/hour
- Degree/Not certified: $25.00/hour
- No Degree/90 college hours: $22.00/hour
- No Degree/60 college hours: $19.00/hour
- No Degree/30 college hours: $16.00/hour
- No Degree/less than 30 college hours: $13.00/hour
Tutors work up to 14.5 hours per week. Employment does not guarantee a minimum number of work hours. Retired teachers are encouraged to review TRS rules as they relate to employment after retirement.
Responsibilities
- Provides individual and small group tutoring to students as needed for test preparation and readiness in core content areas.
- Follows established safety procedures (e.g., no unsupervised activities with student participants, constant visual supervision of students).
- Maintains a commitment to the District’s mission, vision, and strategic goals.
- Exhibits high professionalism, standards of conduct, and work ethic.
- Demonstrates high-quality customer service; builds rapport with students and colleagues.
- Demonstrates cultural competence in interactions; promotes teamwork and acts appropriately in confrontational situations.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including supplemental assignments under special revenue or state compensatory education funds.
- Complies with all Board rules, policies, and regulations.
Requirements
- Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency required; Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
- Strong Math or English background, as evidenced by college transcripts.
- Child care experience or youth-development program experience preferred.
- Any of the following (or combination) is preferred:
- Certified teacher
- Existing/returning college student
- Retired teacher
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) working proficiency preferred in some settings.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
Skills
- Knowledge of District policies and procedures (e.g., student supervision, safety protocols).
- Knowledge of content facts, concepts, theories, and principles in core subject areas.
- Knowledge of multicultural diversity issues in the workplace.
- Knowledge of instructing, reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics.
- Skill in critical thinking and problem-solving.
- Skill in writing, speaking, and interpersonal communication at the entry-college level.
- Skill in operating applicable software, including email and word processing.
- Skill in effective communication and interpersonal relationships (tact, patience, courtesy).

- Ability to respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies or crisis situations, including administering First Aid if applicable.

Schedule
Tutors work up to 14.5 hours per week. Hours may vary and are not guaranteed.
Travel Requirements
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Physical & Mental Demands
- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals.
- Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
- Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions (keyboarding, mouse use); occasional reaching.
- Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
- Environment: Works in an office setting and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); frequent exposure to noise; may require occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours.
- Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required.
- Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions; regularly required to talk or hear; frequently required to walk.
- Other: Specific hearing and visual requirements. May be subject to adverse working conditions, including violent confrontations. Ability to defuse sudden violent or extreme physical acts and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.
