Tutor Module 1: Accounting

The Accounting Tutor works directly with students, either one-on-one or in small group sessions, aiming to foster independent learning and help students achieve their academic goals. To be effective in this role, tutors should have knowledge from courses such as: Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Cost Accounting, CPA Review, and other tutoring topics including ledgers, preparing income taxes, preparing financial statements, and cost analysis.

Essential Functions

  • Supports the department’s goal of providing students with supplemental academic support by:
  • Providing one-on-one and small group tutoring support
  • Providing subject-specific content strategies, attuned to different learning styles and preferences, to help students understand key concepts learned in class
  • Conducting “class visits” and assisting with publicizing the College’s tutoring services
  • Assisting with the maintenance of accurate records in accordance with stated deadlines
  • Completing all necessary paperwork accurately and according to stated deadlines
  • Affixing to the development and maintenance of departmental instructional materials
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Required Qualifications:
  • Education consistent with the department needs & minimum of associate’s degree in related field of study
  • Demonstrated knowledge and competence in the subject matter
  • Ability to explain concepts to others effectively
  • Ability to multitask with varying levels of students and subject material
  • Ability to communicate with faculty regarding expectations of students, assignments, attendance at tutoring sessions and work completed
  • Ability to effectively communicate study strategies to ensure academic success
  • Possess patience and positive attitudes in establishing an encouraging learning environment
  • Possess strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to foster a team environment and work collaboratively
  • Possess working knowledge of administrative and scheduling concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to apply to varied situations
  • Demonstrated basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Possess sensitivity to appropriately respond to the needs of the community

Compensation

This is a Part-Time Non-Bargaining Unit Position, with the following Set Rate of Pay: $18.03/ hour.
