Tutor II - Japanese
Position Summary
Tutor students through a variety of modalities and methods in specific subjects; refer students to other relevant resources.
Required Qualifications
- A degree in Japanese language, in a Japan-related field, or a like discipline.
- Experience in teaching and/or tutoring in high school or in higher education.
- Japanese native speaker or near-native proficiency.
Position Details
- Tutor students through drop-in, by-appointment, semester-long tutoring, embedded, and/or group tutoring (online and/or in-person) in specific subjects or course-specific study skills.
- Build rapport and supportive relationships with students.
- Aid with center-specific projects, including developing and maintaining physical and electronic center resources, delivering content-specific workshops, and meeting with students through the Academic Integrity Remediation process.
- Refer students to appropriate resources within the larger Academic Resource Center and across campus based on expressed student needs.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records, adhering to FERPA and keeping appropriate staff updated on student progress and problems.
- Aid in hiring and training new tutors as necessary and serve as a mentor to other center staff.
- Participate in mandatory center and campus training, including pedagogical training, maintaining content expertise, and other campus-wide training opportunities as appropriate.
- Assist in the daily activities of the center, cover the front desk when needed, ensure students are checked in/out, troubleshoot technical problems (including LMS, software, and hardware problems), and help to maintain a positive, clean, and organized center space.
- Use appropriate scheduling system to manage and maintain tutoring schedules.
- Model tutor expectations and reinforce best practices.
- Aid in planning and coordinating events and workshops related to tutoring subject areas.
