Department: Library — Eastern Campus • Reports to: Program Manager, Assessment & Testing • Part-Time Support Staff, Non-Union

About the role

Works directly with students, either one-on-one or in small groups, to provide academic tutorial assistance, helping students become independent learners that persevere and reach their academic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Provides one-on-one and small-group tutoring support.
  • Offers subject-specific content strategies tailored to different learning styles and preferences to help students understand key concepts.
  • Assists with the use of equipment and learning materials needed for student success.
  • Conducts “class visits” and helps publicize the College’s tutoring services.
  • Maintains accurate records and completes all necessary paperwork according to stated deadlines.
  • Assists with the development and maintenance of departmental instructional materials.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in a field relevant to the department’s needs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and competence in the subject matter.
  • Ability to explain concepts effectively to others.
  • Ability to multitask with varying levels of students and subject material.
  • Ability to communicate with faculty regarding student expectations, assignments, attendance, and progress.
  • Ability to teach study strategies that ensure academic success.
  • Ability to work comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Patience and a positive attitude in establishing an encouraging learning environment.
  • Professional decorum, appearance, conduct, promptness, courtesy, and tact.

Physical Demands / Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in a normal, professional office environment with adequate lighting, heating, and ventilation.
  • Typically involves sitting, with repetitive hand/finger motions (e.g., typing, using a computer mouse).
  • May require walking, standing, bending, and carrying light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, or books.
  • May involve travel to and attendance at meetings or conferences away from the worksite.

Pay

$18.03 per hour

Schedule

Schedule varies based on the needs of the department. Flexible hours (days, evenings, weekends). Supervisor will work with the selected candidate to set a schedule designed to support departmental demands.
