About the Role
Successfully promote and support the mission of Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas as guided by the Catholic Social Teachings by providing superior customer service to customers, volunteers, and donors. Primary responsibilities include product handling, cashiering, and closing out TurnStyles stores.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate eagerness and enthusiasm to serve customers and ensure they receive superior customer service.
- Demonstrate a sense of urgency when completing assigned tasks.
- Ensure the sales floor is kept clean, organized, and maintained according to store operations guidelines.
- Be on the sales floor 100% of the time except when on breaks to assist customers and attend to cash registers.
- Accurately handle transactions, ensuring the correct amount is charged and change given.
- Follow the TurnStyles Operation Guide, with specific attention to Point-Of-Sale (POS) operations, product handling, and sales floor maintenance.
- Develop positive relationships with customers, co-workers, and volunteers.
- Provide coaching and direction to volunteers as needed.
- Ensure compliance with the Catholic Charities Employee Handbook and TurnStyles policies and procedures.
- Adhere to the TurnStyles purchase and discount policy when checking out employees and volunteers.
- Ensure the physical safety of the sales floor.
- Responsible for the recovery and maintenance of the sales floor during your shift.
- Available and willing to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Demonstrate a passion for the mission of Catholic Charities.
- Willing to perform by the agency’s values: love, patience, kindness, faithfulness, self-control, and joy.
- Understand that as a visible representative of the Archdiocesan Church, you will not publicly oppose the teachings of the Catholic Faith nor publicly advocate for any position in conflict with Catholic teaching or the specific positions of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas or the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. This includes public speech, demonstration, or writing (e.g., social media or other digital technologies).
- Complete VIRTUS training, background screening, drug testing, and any ongoing training as required.
- High school education preferred.
- One year of retail experience, Point of Sale (POS), and cash handling preferred.
- Non-profit experience preferred.
- Ability to communicate well with employees, volunteers, donors, and customers, and handle complaints tactfully.
- Ability to lift, move, and handle merchandise throughout the store (sometimes up to 50 pounds).
- Available to work Monday through Saturday, including some evenings as needed.
- Pass a background check and drug screen.
Physical Requirements
- Stand for long periods of time; may also be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 5 hours in length.
- Ability to bend, squat, and stretch to fulfill tasks.
- May be exposed to infectious diseases.
- Ability to effectively communicate with others.
Schedule
The store is open from 9 AM – 7 PM weekdays and 9 AM – 6 PM on Saturdays.
