About the role
Boston Public Schools seeks an exceptional Vocational Tech [Aviation Technology] Teacher to join our community of teachers, learners, and leaders. This is an exciting opportunity for teachers who desire to serve where their efforts matter.
Responsibilities
- Teach: [Aviation Technology]: Provide a vocational technical course of study that is aligned to state curriculum frameworks and meets the learning needs of the students and maintains a safe learning environment
- Be in alignment with vocational technical skills and content embodied in the school's curriculum map to achieve equitable student outcomes
- Earn and/or maintain all required licensure
- Provides a year-long Aviation elective course that teaches basic aviation concepts, introduces students to aviation careers, meets the learning needs of the students, and maintains a safe learning environment
- Constructs curriculum appropriate for the course
- Work with Madison Park leadership to build out a multi-year course sequence that eventually includes a flight component for eligible students
- Constructs and maintains yearly equipment lists and estimated operating costs for the elective’s budget
- Sets criteria and standards for assessment
- Earns and/or maintain all required licensure
- Ensures compliance with Madison Park and Boston Public School policies and procedures and local, state, and federal regulations, including the FAA
- Collaborates with the FAA for any curriculum needs and examinations
- Manages future private flight school selection and evaluation
- Works with the school to devise standards for student eligibility for the elective and any flight components
- Ensures safe and cost-effective delivery of ground and flight training in accordance with 14 CFR Part 61 or 141
- Writes and submit annual reports as needed for accreditation processes and assessment to detail efforts and improvements
- Participates in various school council meetings and working group meetings as needed and as assigned
- Participates in planning and execution of a marketing campaign to underrepresented communities to attract students to Madison Park who are interested in aviation
Qualifications
- Required Education: Associate’s degree or higher degree
- Employment experience: 5 Years of Experience (full-time employment experience directly related to field)
- Occupational License/ Industry Certification: Possession of a current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe & Power-plant Certification 147
- Ability to earn a Massachusetts Vocational Tech Teaching License in the appropriate subject (9-14) by achieving a passing score on the subject-specific written and performance exams and achieving a passing score on one of the literacy skills MTELs
- Ability to earn Massachusetts Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement
- Ability to meet the Standards of Effective Teaching established by the Boston Public Schools as outlined above
- Current authorization to work in the United States
- No past, current, or pending FAA actions on the individual’s pilot and/or instructor certificate
