Turf Intern - Lodge Golf Maintenance (Seasonal)

Basic Job Function

To be exposed to most aspects of the golf maintenance operation.

Promote the Sea Island legacy of warm genuine hospitality.

Uphold and ensure compliance with all company and departmental policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements

• Must be in a college or secondary education program dealing with horticulture/landscaping/turf programs
• Must have golf maintenance or landscape experience
• Able to operate various power driven cutting and grooming machines, riding and walk-behind, motorized carts, gas, work with various turf maintenance chemicals, and various hand tools

• Must possess a positive attitude and have the ability to work with a variety of people and in cooperation with coworkers efficiently and effectively
• Must be detail oriented and able to manage competing priorities and multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Must be flexible to working days, early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays

Tasks/Responsibilities

• Properly operates equipment such as: sand pros, tractor-lawn mowers, greens mowers, etc.
• Mows the greens and tee boxes in their respective area
• Changes the water, soap and towel for each ball washer
• Moves tee markers and cups when necessary
• Replaces the flag on the pin when necessary
• Reports any insect or animal damage to the supervisor
• Reports any malfunction with machinery to mechanic or supervisor immediately
• Reports any physical damage to equipment to the mechanic or supervisor so that the damage can be repaired
• Picks up trash, windfalls or anything that would be out of place affecting the appearance or playability of the golf course
• Learn the names and personally recognize our regular Guests and Members
• Answer any questions guests may have about Sea Island or the area to the best of one’s ability
• Maintain cleanliness and organization in all work areas
• Uphold appropriate departmental standards of quality/timing
• Attend all scheduled employee meetings and bring suggestions for improvement
• Willing and timely execution of other duties as delegated by leadership

Physical Requirements

• Ability to kneel, crouch, squat, climb, stand, sit, balance, reach, bend, push, pull and walk for prolonged periods
• Must have the ability to work for extended time periods in an outdoor environment, including sun, heat, cold, wind, rain, and higher than normal noise levels
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks with accuracy
• Ability to lift, carry, pull and push up to 75 lbs repeatedly throughout a shift
• Read, write and communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal preferred
• May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical and fume hazards
