About the role
The External - Posting Description Turbine Production Engineer C position is part of Generation Projects & Fleet Services department. It offers two openings, one focused on Hydro and the other on Coal and Gas. The successful candidate must be willing and able to travel to Muscle Shoals and other plant sites.
Responsibilities
- Provide engineering support for on-site repairs and overhauls on hydroelectric turbines, generators and associated components.
- Assist crews during disassembly and reassembly of vertical and horizontal hydro units.
- Assist in troubleshooting issues that arise during outage activities, assist or perform unit alignment, review field data and provide disposition for acceptance or corrective actions.
- Provide data sheets as required, participate in design reviews for upcoming outages, and work with shop personnel for rehab of existing components.
- Serve as a technical expert in the area of steam and/or combustion turbine field engineering.
- Perform and direct studies to evaluate the effects of modifications, deterioration, deletions, and additions to steam, hydro and/or combustion turbines and associated auxiliaries within FPG.
- Aid production units in resolving equipment and system problems as requested.
- Perform or direct multi-discipline engineering work to optimize performance of inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of steam, hydro and/or combustion turbines and associated auxiliaries within FPG.
- Maintain and monitor plant systems, processes, and equipment.
- Evaluate and investigate performance gaps and other problems at a particular location and replicate solutions fleet-wide as appropriate.
- Lead project teams, establish and accomplish valid requirements, monitor project performance, approve project changes within approved limits, and conduct lessons learned reviews at project completion.
- Initiate improvements to optimize achievement of plant, fleet, and/or fossil system business plan objectives.
- Travel extensively to ensure effective project management and problem-solving.
- Provide technical direction to other engineers and/or support personnel assigned to work on projects.
Requirements
Must hold a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from an ABET accredited engineering school with a mechanical, electrical, or civil concentration. Full competence as a Production Engineer as demonstrated by several years' experience at senior level as a System Engineer or Discipline Engineer is required. A license as a Professional Engineer is highly desirable.
Qualifications
Sound knowledge of all engineering disciplines with depth in one discipline. Expert knowledge of steam, hydro and/or combustion turbines, steam, hydro and/or combustion turbine controls, and auxiliary systems. Depth in problem solving and analysis, including Root Cause FMEA / EMEA Weibull, etc. Experience with plant operations and maintenance processes. Competence in engineering economy. Leadership and project management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
