About the role

The Lead Tune Technician plays a key role in ensuring high-quality ski and snowboard tuning and repair while guiding the daily workflow of the tune shop. This role oversees the organization of incoming and outgoing equipment, maintains standards for machine operation and hand tuning, and provides direction to the technician team to ensure efficiency and accuracy. By balancing hands-on technical work with oversight responsibilities, the Lead Tune Technician supports a smooth operation that delivers safe, high-performing equipment and excellent guest experience. This position reports to the Tune Shop Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, sort, and organize incoming skis and snowboards according to established protocols, ensuring workflow is efficient and accurate
  • Assign tuning and repair tasks to technicians, balancing workload to meet deadlines and maintain productivity
  • Perform tuning and repair of skis and snowboards, including use of the Wintersteiger tune machine for final structure and edge polishing as needed
  • Inspect finished product for accuracy, consistency, and quality, ensuring all work meets standards established by the Tune Shop Manager
  • Guide technicians in proper machine operation, hand tuning techniques, and quality control standards
  • Oversee organization of completed equipment to ensure accurate and timely delivery to the correct location
  • Clean and maintain tuning machines, benches, and hand tools, and ensure team adherence to shop cleanliness and equipment care standards
  • Perform and oversee closing procedures to prepare the shop for the next shift, ensuring all documentation and equipment are properly managed
  • Aid in training new technicians and providing ongoing coaching to team members
  • Communicate effectively with the Tune Shop Manager regarding workflow, equipment needs, and operational concerns
  • Support coordination of equipment transfers as needed to align with operational and guest needs
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Education & Experience Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent required. Certification in ski mounting, torque testing, and DIN settings preferred or willingness to obtain. Completion of Wintersteiger equipment courses or equivalent hands-on tuning and repair experience preferred. Minimum of 1 year of experience in ski and snowboard tuning, repair, or related technical work required.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: In-depth knowledge of ski and snowboard construction, materials, and advanced repair techniques including epoxy application, edge work, and base repair. Proficient experience providing guidance, training, or oversight to other technicians. Strong knowledge of tuning fundamentals, including edging, base repair, stone grinding, and waxing, and the ability to coach others on these techniques. Understanding of tuning standards that ensure optimal equipment performance, guest safety, and consistency across the team. Familiarity with industry tools, Wintersteiger and other tuning machinery, and safe handling procedures. Proficiency in following company policies, operational protocols, and safety standards, and ensuring compliance by team members. Skill in completing tuning and repair tasks with precision, efficiency, and attention to quality under time constraints. Skill in providing guidance, training, and feedback to other technicians to maintain workflow and quality standards. Skill in prioritizing multiple tasks and coordinating team workflow during high-volume periods. Skill in documenting and communicating tuning and repair status, operational needs, and quality concerns to supervisors. Ability to lead by example, maintaining high-quality output while fostering teamwork and accountability. Ability to adapt quickly to changes in workflow, equipment needs, or team direction while maintaining operational standards. Ability to maintain meticulous attention to detail when inspecting and preparing equipment, ensuring guest-ready performance.

Additional Information

  • Work Environment & Physical Demands: Ability to stand, walk or be on your feet for extended periods of time. Kneeling and bending may be required. Regularly work indoors with no adverse conditions. Some positions require exposure to outdoor elements or a combination of both indoors and outdoors and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces. Must be able to frequently lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. individually or with assistance.
