Responsibilities

  • Provide academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support to students in both general and special education settings under the direction of teachers and support staff.
  • Aid teachers in implementing instructional activities, interventions, accommodations, and modifications to meet individual student needs.
  • Support students individually and in small groups to reinforce classroom instruction and promote academic success.
  • Assist with classroom management by encouraging positive behavior, reinforcing expectations, and maintaining a structured learning environment.
  • Supervise students during classrooms, hallways, lunch, recess (if applicable), arrival, dismissal, and other school activities to ensure student safety.
  • Aid with organization, assignment completion, study skills, and use of instructional technology.
  • Collaborate with teachers, intervention staff, counselors, and administrators to support student success.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student records and information in accordance with school policies and applicable laws.
  • Participate in school activities, meetings, professional development, and other assigned duties.
  • Maintain effective communication with students, parents (as directed), and school staff.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.

Cognitive Demands

  • Supervision of multiple secondary students in a variety of school settings.

Physical Demands

  • Occasionally lift, move, or carry objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Frequently stand and walk throughout the school day.
  • Occasionally bend, kneel, crouch, or reach while assisting students.
  • Assist with student supervision in classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, gymnasium, and outdoor areas.
  • Withstand moderate noise levels throughout the school environment.
  • Be able to perform first aid/CPR if necessary.
  • Assist or support students with mobility or other physical needs, as necessary.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or completion of college coursework in education, child development, psychology, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience working with middle school or high school students in an educational setting preferred.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with adolescents while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to follow teacher direction while working independently when appropriate.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism in all interactions.
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) and/or First Aid/CPR certification preferred or willingness to obtain, if required.
