About the role
The Trust Tax Manager will oversee the work of the Trust Tax Group to ensure the complete, accurate, and timely preparation and filing of tax documents for MidFirst Wealth Management. This includes Forms 1098, 1099-MISC, 1099-NEC, 1099-B, 1099-DIV, 1099-INT, 1099-R, 5227, 5498, 1041, 1042, 1042-S, and 990PF. The role involves coordination of tax compliance, interaction with tax preparers and authorities, and addressing specific tax and account issues for MidFirst employees and clients. The position may also include additional account administration and research responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Serve as lead liaison to third-party tax vendor to manage tax reporting function.
- Review tax reporting documents prior to filings with taxing authorities for completeness and accuracy.
- Review tax documents to be sent to clients for completeness and accuracy prior to mailing.
- Maintain a current working knowledge of all tax laws and regulations related to the administration of estates, trusts, and investment accounts.
- Acquire and apply knowledge of tax issues in handling moderately complex accounts (e.g., irrevocable trusts, IRAs, distributing trusts, trust agency).
- Review legal documents, correspondence, and forms to ensure compliance with tax regulations.
- Provide recommendations to management regarding changes to transaction processing and account maintenance for more accurate reporting.
- Act as educator and mentor to Wealth Management and MidFirst employees regarding tax and related trusts, estate, and investment accounts.
- Manage personnel responsibilities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Economics, Finance, or Business Administration.
- Post-graduate work in accounting or law is preferable.
- CPA or JD preferred.
- CTFA or other trust certification desirable.
- Intermediate/Advanced knowledge of tax issues related to trust and estate services and applicable laws.
- Five years or more of working experience in trust and estate administration, with emphasis on tax issues.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows operating environment.
- Working knowledge of trust accounting and related systems.
- Advanced proficiency in verbal and written communication.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to be effective under pressure.
- Advanced ability to prioritize and multi-task.
- Ability to professionally interact with all levels of employees and clients.
- Ability to respect and hold confidential information.
- Ability to work independently as required.
- Dependable, cooperative, and flexible.
Pay
Salary Range: $120,000.00 - $170,000.00. Compensation is aligned to experience, skills, and education.
