The Director of Trust and Safety at Depop is responsible for:
- Owns the strategic vision and operationalization of Depop’s Global Trust & Safety org
- Champions Depop’s commitment to user safety by embedding user-centric perspectives into strategy and decision-making
- Transforms Depop’s Moderation operations and maximizes impact of the workforce in partnership with internal cross-functional teams
- Drives alignment on staffing, infrastructure, tooling investments
- Antsipates company-wide vulnerabilities in safety, proactively shapes enterprise-level solutions, and guides the organization through ambiguity and change with resilience and vision
- Develops and drives plans from inception to delivery
- Develops an understanding of safety issues and the architecture and integration points of Depop’s community safety support processes, products, and policies
- Keeps up-to-date on industry trends and emerging issues in the Trust & Safety space
- Acts as the senior cross-functional leader ensuring strategic alignment across Product, Legal, Community Support, and Policy
- Enables constructive dissent, fosters diverse perspectives, and drives decisive outcomes at the Management Team level
- Communicates feedback, challenges, roadblocks, insights effectively and concisely to appropriate audiences and stakeholders
- Develops a strong bench of senior leaders, sets the tone for equitable people practices, and creates an environment that nurtures future leaders
- Proactively advocates for teams by resolving systemic cross-organizational challenges
- Remains calm and effective under pressure and coaches teams to effectively navigate and communicate in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment
About the role
The Director of Trust and Safety at Depop is a critical role aimed at ensuring the safety and trust of Depop’s community. This position requires a significant amount of experience in Trust & Safety Operations, particularly in areas such as content moderation, compliance, risk, or authentication.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Director of Trust and Safety include:
- Strategic leadership and operationalization of Depop’s Global Trust & Safety organization
- Embedding user-centric perspectives into strategy and decision-making
- Transforming Moderation operations and maximizing the workforce’s impact
- Aligning on staffing, infrastructure, and tooling investments
- Anticipating and addressing company-wide vulnerabilities in safety
- Shaping enterprise-level solutions and guiding the organization through ambiguity and change
- Developing and implementing strategic plans from inception to delivery
- Understanding safety issues and the architecture of Depop’s community safety support processes
- Staying updated on industry trends and emerging issues in the Trust & Safety space
- Ensuring strategic alignment across Product, Legal, Community Support, and Policy
- Fostering constructive dissent and diverse perspectives within the team
- Communicating effectively with various stakeholders
- Building a strong bench of senior leaders and setting a tone for equitable people practices
- Resolving systemic cross-organizational challenges
- Maintaining composure under pressure and coaching teams to navigate ambiguity
Qualifications
To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:
- Significant experience leading teams in Trust & Safety Operations in domains such as content moderation, compliance, risk, or authentication
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree
- A critical thinker with the ability to interpret regulatory and policy requirements and translate them into operational processes
- A proven ability to navigate ambiguity by proactively shaping solutions beyond immediate asks, pressure-testing strategic assumptions, and guiding teams through complex problem-solving at scale
- Effective written and verbal communication and excellent stakeholder management skills
- Experience working/building relationships with cross-functional teams, especially Product & Engineering, and delivering impact through communication and influencing teams towards achieving goals
- An inspiring, empathetic, and inclusive leader with respect for diversity of thought
- A strong business acumen, strategic and analytical capabilities with operational rigour and proactive can-do mentality
- Comfortable operating in a fast-changing environment, striking the right balance between speed and accuracy
- A written and verbal proficiency in English (required) and another European language (preferred)
