Trust Fund Accountant
Role Overview
The Trust Fund Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate accounting records, financial reporting, and administering multiemployer fringe benefit funds, including health, pension, and employee benefit plans. Key duties include preparing financial statements, reconciling contributions and benefit payments, supporting audits, ensuring compliance with ERISA, DOL, and IRS regulations, and managing cash flows and investments. The role involves collaborating with trustees, auditors, and plan administrators to ensure financial integrity and regulatory adherence.
Qualifications & Skills
- Candidates need a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fields, with 1+ years of experience in employee benefit plan or trust accounting.
- Proficiency in Excel, accounting software, account reconciliations, and supporting audits is essential.
- Soft skills include strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, effective communication, and adaptability.
- Experience with ERISA plans and Form 5500 reporting is preferred.
Key Duties
- Maintain general ledger and prepare financial statements
- Reconcile contributions, benefit payments, and investment activity
- Support compliance, audit processes, and regulatory filings
- Monitor fund cash balances and investment transactions
- Generate reports, perform variance analysis, and assist budgeting
