About the role

The Chassis Working Lead is responsible for leading a Chassis Team in producing products that meet quality, safety, and productivity requirements. Key responsibilities include overseeing the installation of various components, ensuring adherence to specifications and safety standards, managing daily tasks, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities, including training and development; planning, assigning, and directing work; approving weekly timecards; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems; and coaching and counseling.
  • Manages consumable usage in the assembly department and stays within the established budget.
  • Oversees safety regulations by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; secures tools, materials, and equipment at the end of the day.
  • Leads day-to-day chassis preparation activities on the floor.
  • Performs hands-on mechanical and electrical prep work as needed.
  • Receives and inspects incoming chassis for damage, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Ensures work follows standard work, drawings, and work instructions.
  • Coordinates task sequencing to support production flow and assembly schedule.
  • Trains and supports team members on chassis processes.
  • Communicates issues related to quality, material, or engineering.
  • Manages projects and timelines based on production schedules.
  • Leads and directs the work of others as required to complete the chassis.
  • Contributes to team effort by actively participating in department meetings.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Maintains and organizes equipment and the assigned area in the department, as well as cleaning the shop.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A minimum of five years of mechanical/electrical repair, combined with leadership experience in a formal or informal capacity.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate detailed information to co-workers, management, vendors, suppliers, and customers.
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to interact in a positive and professional manner to develop and maintain strong working relationships with co-workers, management, suppliers, and customers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, CSI systems, and workplace technology tools.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as job orders, procedure manuals, and schematics (blueprints).
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to create documented processes and procedures.
  • Skills in the fabrication, joining, and repair of a variety of metal objects, equipment, fixtures, and structures.
  • Ability to use department equipment, such as forklift, ladder/scaffold, overhead crane, power tools, and copy machine.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The work environment is usually an indoor setting with frequent exposure to outside elements. The noise level in the work environment is frequently high. In addition, other elements that an employee could be exposed to frequently in this work environment are, but not limited to, dust, dirt, fumes and odors, mechanical and electrical hazards, fire hazards, and an elevated workplace. This position requires infrequent travel, which may involve exposure to extreme weather elements.
