About the role

Incumbent will safely and accurately drive a semi tractor-trailer combination or a truck to transport goods and materials in liquid, loose, or packaged form. Will load and unload the truck and assist others with loading at farmers’ sites or other locations. Under the direction of the location supervisor and/or operations manager, the candidate may also perform tasks related to operating grain and/or agronomy facilities, including receiving grain, maintaining grain conditions, measuring inventory, and handling bulk and packaged fertilizer and chemical products.

This position will maintain efficiency to optimize the cooperative’s market share and savings, improve operational efficiency, and uphold outstanding customer service. A positive attitude promoting teamwork and a favorable image of Five Star Cooperative is expected at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Drive trucks with capacities greater than 13 tons, including tractor-trailer combinations, to transport and deliver products, grain, feed, ingredients, petroleum, or other materials.
  • Load and unload trucks, assist others (including customers) with loading and unloading, and operate special loading-related equipment.
  • Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, follow signals from loading crews, and ensure proper vehicle positioning.
  • Couple and uncouple trailers by adjusting trailer jacks, connecting or disconnecting air and electrical lines, and manipulating fifth-wheel locks.
  • Follow safety procedures for transporting dangerous goods.
  • Perform pre-trip inspections to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
  • Maintain logs of working hours and vehicle service/repair status in compliance with company, state, and federal regulations.
  • Obtain and verify load-related documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Secure cargo for transport using ropes, blocks, chains, binders, and/or covers.
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage.
  • Read and interpret maps to determine vehicle routes.
  • Collect and verify delivery instructions and routes from appropriate sources.
  • Operate truck cab computers, CB radios, and telephones to communicate with locations, supervisors, or other drivers.
  • Inspect trailers after unloading to ensure no damage has occurred.
  • Crank trailer landing gear up or down to safely secure vehicles.
  • Enforce and abide by all cooperative policies, maintain quality control standards, and exhibit integrity and professionalism.
  • Assist other locations and departments as assigned by management, communicate availability regularly, and support projects as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Preferred: Agriculture background.

Qualifications

  • Valid Class A, B, or Temp CDL.
  • Valid DOT physical card or ability to obtain one.
