Examples Of Duties
- Licensing of ambulance companies.
- Monitoring terms of ambulance contracts, including the interpretation of reports and data.
- Developing standards for ambulance and paramedic programs.
- Accreditation, certification, and authorization of EMT-Ps, EMT-Is, and MICNs.
- Medical disaster planning.
- Providing program quality assurance and safety.
- Interpreting and implementing statutes and requirements.
- Securing strong cooperation, participation, and coordination between a variety of EMS system stakeholders.
- Representing Ventura County EMS at the state and local level.
Typical Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Health Sciences, Public Administration, or a closely related field; and three (3) years of experience in planning, implementing or monitoring an EMS program, OR
- Five (5) years of professional administrative experience in planning, implementing or monitoring an EMS program (within the last three (3) years).
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of: emergency medical methods and procedures; emergency medical operations and organizations; basic and advanced life support equipment and supplies; training methods and procedures; pre-hospital medical care; program budgeting; EMS management information systems, and QA/UR.
- Comprehensive ability to: plan, develop, implement and evaluate an EMS program; supervise staff effectively; write funding applications and administer grants.
- Ability to work cooperatively with the EMS Medical Director; understand, interpret and explain relevant laws, regulations; strong oral and written communication skills.
Necessary Special Requirement
- Possession of a valid California driver's license.
Desirable/Preferred
- The possession of or eligibility for certification as an EMT Paramedic in California or possession of a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in California and possession of or eligibility for a certificate as a Mobile Intensive Care Nurse (MICN) is desirable but not required.
