Truck Driver II (CDL)

About the Role

Drives a GVW truck weighing 26,001 pounds or more to transport materials to and from specified destinations, including roll-off trucks for trash in compactors and open-tops containers to waste disposal sites.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe vehicle operations, driving, and crew safety at all times.
• Drive truck to destination and prepare donation receipts at house pick-ups or miscellaneous deliveries when needed.
• Identify unusable material (UM) and advise donors of alternative pick-up options.
• Load and unload vehicle using a hand truck or dolly; safely operate the lift gate.
• Coordinate load movements with truck helpers and other crew members.
• Load vehicle, distribute weight evenly, form compact loads, organize assorted donations, and utilize space effectively.
• Position pads, stack, and secure items on the truck to prevent damage; use blocks and tie ropes to secure cargo during transit.
• Maintain truck logs according to state and federal regulations.
• Complete vehicle maintenance sheets by performing daily inspections of tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water; report unsafe conditions immediately.
• Maintain telephone or radio contact with dispatcher or lead person for delivery/collections instructions.
• Observe all vehicle operations policies, including state and federal regulations.
• Navigate streets and locations on the island of Oahu; notify the office by radio in case of emergencies.
• Follow company policies and procedures for handling emergencies while maintaining safety.
• Operate other lift trucks and vehicles as required, if certified.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of outside areas, donations, metals, furniture, and bins.
• Conduct work safely using protective clothing (e.g., gloves, support belt) and equipment (e.g., hand truck, dolly).
• Comply with all safety standards and company policies.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED; or one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid driver’s license (Type 4) and a traffic abstract that meets company guidelines.
• Must pass a DOT physical, functional capacity exam, and be at least 21 years of age.
• Must retain HDL and DOT medical card on person at all times when working.

Skills

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence.
• Excellent customer service skills; ability to present information to customers, clients, and other employees.
• Basic mathematical skills: ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Ability to read map coordinates and follow instructions.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.
• Frequently lift up to 50 lbs and maneuver wheeled containers weighing up to 300 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

• Regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
• Noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
• Core work hours are between 7:30 am–4:00 pm, Monday–Sunday, including holidays, to meet the needs of a retail operation.
• Regular attendance is required.
