About the role
Penske Truck Leasing seeks highly motivated and qualified applicants for the position of Hiker (Vehicle Transporter/Truck Driver). This casual/on-call part-time role involves transporting box trucks up to 26’ and, for CDL Class A holders, moving tractors and trailers. The position may also assist the service department by delivering parts and equipment. Hours vary from 0 to 25 per week based on business needs, offering supplemental income for licensed CDL Class B or CDL Class A drivers.
This position is located at the Penske facility at 74 Newberry Road, East Windsor, CT.
Responsibilities
- Follow appropriate safety procedures while driving trucks to Penske or customer locations.
- Inspect vehicles to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order; report issues to the location manager.
- Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required.
- Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to vehicles.
- Perform other projects and tasks as assigned by a supervisor.
Requirements
- 2 years of driving experience required.
- 2 years of a clean DMV motor vehicle record required.
- Valid Class B CDL required; Class A CDL preferred.
- Must be domiciled in the U.S. and licensed in your state of residence.
- Ability to read and follow written instructions, work independently, and demonstrate customer service, organizational skills, and a positive attitude.
- English language proficiency required (49 C.F.R. 391.11(b)(2)).
- Regular, predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.
- Must maintain a current driver qualification file, including an annual MVR check, a successfully completed DOT Physical, and Safety Performance History records from prior employers in the last 3 years.
- CDL holders will undergo a DOT Drug Screening within 30 days of start and be subject to an FMCSA Clearinghouse review.
- Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, and complete a background investigation (including past employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening.
- This role is regulated by the Department of Transportation and is designated as safety-sensitive; associates must work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to see and hear, with specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Frequent movement, standing, walking, and sitting required.
- Frequent use of hands to touch, handle, and feel, and to reach with hands and arms.
- Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs/23 kg and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs/45 kg.
- Must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle and safely and frequently enter/exit the vehicle and the rear cargo area.
Pay
$20.25–$20.75 per hour.
