About the role
This position involves performing routine skilled work in the operation of motor trucks and light-duty motor equipment, with safety as the primary objective. The role adheres to established GMP, Safety, and Stratas Foods procedures and policies.
Responsibilities
- Deliver full trailer loads of 20+ pallets to Stratas Foods customers throughout the Northeast within a 250-mile radius, returning home every night.
- Minimal product handling using electric jacks to move freight.
- Work Monday through Friday with occasional weekends.
- Prepare and maintain appropriate paperwork and records related to shipment of deliveries.
- Maintain vehicle and equipment operational records.
- Obtain and exchange information, respond to inquiries, or direct questions regarding shipments to the appropriate source.
- Comply with state laws pertaining to the operation of equipment on highways.
Requirements
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Valid CDL Class A New Jersey driver's license.
- 3–5 years’ experience operating motor-driven equipment.
- Knowledge of motor equipment principles to detect defective operation.
- Clean driving record with an updated MVR.
- Updated DOT Physical card.
- Ability to pass a road test.
- Knowledge of the Northeast Region.
- Ability to drive either manual or automatic transmissions.
- Knowledge of the food service industry is a plus.
Work Environment
- Performed in both standard office and manufacturing plant environments.
- Exposure to loud noises, dust, dirt, heat, sparks, oil, and smoke may occur.
- Personal protective equipment (safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, appropriate clothing, hard hat) is required in manufacturing plants.
- Activities include extended periods of sitting and standing.
Physical Demands
- Sitting, walking, and climbing as required in a manufacturing environment.
- On feet for most of the shift with occasional lifting, climbing stairs, and ladders, including rail cars and trucks.
- Use of hands, arms, and fingers.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds, climb stairs, lift, bend, kneel, stand for long periods, work in small spaces, and work at heights.
Sensory & Mental Requirements
- Good listening skills and public speaking abilities to communicate with both hourly and salaried personnel.
- Ability to determine the purpose of communications and prioritize accordingly.
- Perform sensory testing on in-process and finished product samples, distinguishing issues by taste, smell, or sight.
- Strong organizational, decision-making, and multitasking abilities.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills to accommodate a fast-paced environment.
